Welcome to Shadowside Theater, the official fanlisting for the Shadow Girls from Shoujo Kakumei Utena (Revolutionary Girl Utena). A fanlisting is a collective listing of all fans of a specific something, person, character, show, or whatever, and their websites and email addresses if they so wish to distribute those. Most people use it as a hub for link exchange and general website whoring, but others just like to place their names on the list. Whatever your reasons may be for being here, please join.

The Shadow Girls are shadow play actresses who perform satirical, allegory-based fables during almost every single episode of Shoujo Kakumei Utena, with each fable illustrating one of its representative episode’s core themes. During the Apocalypse Saga, they tell a simplistic (Akio calls it “sophomoric”) fairy-tale allegory of Akio’s fall from grace as Dios and Anthy’s transformation from princess to witch. The Shadow Girls’ antics seem at first farfetched and nonsensical, but, with closer, more abstract analysis, have a definite place in the Shoujo Kakumei Utena universe. Though their stories are simplistic and sophomoric, as Akio observed, the Shadow Girls are teachers, simplifying many of the myriad philosophies featured in the show into simple, easily-understandable fables. They are insane and entertaining, and many of their observations are universally applicable.

The first thirteen episodes of Utena, the Student Council Saga, feature the dynamic pair A-ko and B-ko, the thirteen episodes of the Black Rose Saga feature the lone Shadow Girl C-ko, and the final thirteen episodes of the Ohtori Akio and Apocalypse Sagas feature A-ko and B-ko once again.

The movie Adolescence of Utena features E-ko and F-ko, who run Ohtori Academy’s lunchtime radio show and, along with a re-appearing C-ko, administer the Kage OS tracking system and provide Anthy with live radio coverage of her own ‘race’ to the outside world in the Utena-Car.

If you do not link back immediately, or if I cannot find your code because it is in some obscure or illogical location (such as a random page of a fanfic, whatever), I will add you to the listing without linking back.
4. If you request, I will not display your email address, but you must still provide a functional one to be added to the fanlisting.
